Reset your creative muscle in 2022

Reset your creative muscle in 2022

Schools have finally broken up for Christmas and the glitter, pens, tinsel, glue, and stickytape have been packed away for a couple of weeks. Drawing, art, creativity is such a fun part of Christmas AND always reminds me of one of my favourite stories.

Amy starts to draw. The teacher is curious. He approaches the child, who hastily covers up what she’s doing for fear of it being seen. ‘What are you drawing?’ asks the teacher. ‘God’, replies the child. ‘But, no-one knows what God looks like.’ ‘They soon will.’ says the child.

I love that story because it’s a great reminder that we are all born with a creative zest for life and an ability to think differently. So, in 2022, why not take some time to actively hone you own creativity. It is a muscle, the more you use it, the better it will get. And to help you, here are my next three tips from my Wellbeing Advent calendar. Three ways to fuel your creativity in 2022.

1. Watch the best #tedtalks of all time, in my opinion, which is by the late, great Ted Robinson's on why schools kill creativity. If you watch nothing else in January, watch this.

2. Sit down, take some time to relax and read @PaulArden's excellent book, 'It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want to Be.’

3. And finally, if you’re feeling adventurous, go out for a walk or create a new commute ritual and listen to ‘Magic Moments’.
Elizabeth Gilbert's 2016 podcast, in which the author of ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ coaches a creative who has stalled in some way. There are, sadly, only 21 episodes but Gilbert says some wise and beautiful things in this podcast, and it's a must listen to for anyone who wants to flex their creative muscles in 2022.
